Do Snakes Eat Bugs?
It really depends on the type of snake that you have weather they will eat bugs or insects. As most people are aware of snakes are carnivores and therefore majority of their diet needs to consist of meat. Therefore to answer the question - do snakes eat bugs for the most part the answer is No.
There are however some snakes that will eat bugs and insects such as garter and green snakes. Usually it is the smaller type of snakes that will eat bugs such as crickets, insect larva, and cockroaches.
This is a great benefit to some people as these small snakes will kill all the pests in people's gardens.
Having said this most snakes that people keep as pets are usually snakes that need meat in their diet. They need a giant chunk of meat and not cut-up or scraps of meat. This is because they swallow it whole and overtime digest it.
But the good thing is that you do not have to give your snake live rats or mice. There is another option of getting frozen 'pinks' from the pet store. These are baby mice that haven't grown fur yet. You can buy them by the box and keep them in the freezer and from time to time take one out of the box and microwave it and give it to your snake.
Of course the preferred option for feeding snakes is to give them live rats or mice but this can also come with some possible complications. The prey could bite the snake and cause infections or possibly hurt the snake and choke it.
For this reason the easiest option is feeding snakes frozen 'pinks'.
But again to answer the question do snakes eat insects or bugs the overall answer is no and they also cannot live on just bugs. They will eat a few if given the opportunity but need meat to survive.
