How Long Can A Ball Python Go Without Eating
Ball Python snakes are often pets for many people and they may be wondering to themselves how long can a ball python go without eating food?
Surprisingly the answer to the question is a pretty long time! Ball Python’s have the ability to lower their metabolic rates by up to 70 percent allowing them to go very long periods of time without eating.
What this means is that a pet ball python can go anywhere from a few weeks to up to a year without eating food!
It is known by many people who own ball pythons that it isn’t uncommon for them to go from 2 – 8 months without eating depending on a few factors such as how much they ate before they took a break.
The Ball Python has very low energy demands to began with and their bodies are extremely effective as using very little resources.
This particular type of snake is well-adapt against starvation because they are good at not using a lot of protein when they are not eating.
It is however important to note that baby ball pythons do require more feeding as they are still growing and will eat more often such as every week or so.
Also ball pythons in the wild will go even longer without food as they are required to do so at times when food is not available. Pet ball pythons will usually eat more often.
However saying all of this you should still offer ball python’s food every 10 to 14 days to see if they are interested in eating. If not that is fine but make sure you offer them food.
For baby ball python snakes offer food every week to see if they are hungry.

What do Ball Python’s Eat?
Ball Python snakes should be fed food that is the appropriate size for their bodies. What this means is that depending on the size of your ball python you should feed food that they can easily swallow. Therefore the food should be no larger than the circumference of the ball python’s circumference as its largest body section.
A very common food for them includes rats even at a young age. Make sure to never handle them while they eat up to a day after feeding as well as it can cause them to regurgitate their food.
As well you can feed your Ball Python pre-killed rodents and thawed or frozen rodents.
It is important to note to never leave a live rodent alone with your snake as it could potentially harm your snake.
In addition to feeding them they also need fresh and clean water available to them at all times. Make sure to check their water daily.
The size of the water dish should be big enough for them to crawl in and soak their bodies. They like a good soak from time to time.
Make sure the water isn’t too deep especially for young snakes so roughly 1 inch of water should do.
In some cases the snakes will defecate in their water bowl and then it will need to be disinfected and cleaned. It can be handy for these times to have a second bowl to use while you clean the main one.
